Engineering Project Management Project Proposal

April 2018

  • Purpose: The purpose of this assignment was to plan and create a formal project proposal for the Engineering Project Management course I took. This report needed to include all of the concepts required in an official report and needed to demonstrate an understanding of how to write an official project proposal in the workplace.

  • Challenges: This was the first course I had taken of this nature. Since most of the courses I had taken prior to this one had been more analytical based, I needed to change my mindset to that of someone overseeing a project rather than being one of the engineers working on the project. It was very interesting to have the chance to see what really goes into a project from the proposal stage to the final completion of the design.

  • Results: Creating this project proposal allowed me to gain an understanding of the importance of project managers and how they work. I was able to come up with a model for how my project would be carried out and wrote a full project proposal.

  • Lessons Learned: I learned how to successfully create a project proposal including learning how to create budgets, statistical analysis of risk factors, complete PERT and CPM analysis, complete a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), and complete an IDEFO model. It was extremely useful to be able to understand what the necessary components are that go into a project from a managers point of view rather than from the engineers point of view.

FEA Final Project

April 2017

  • Purpose: Design a model in SolidWorks, import it into ANSYS, and preform an analysis of various stresses and displacements of the model.

  • Challenges: Before beginning this project I did not have any formal training in SolidWorks. In order to complete the main portion of the project, which was the FEA analysis, I needed to teach myself the basics of how to create models in SolidWorks.

  • Results: By using online demonstrations and tutorials I was able to successfully create a model of a table and import the model into ANSYS. I was then able to complete my analysis of the stress/strain that was acting on the table if a force was put on it.

  • Lessons Learned: After completing the project I was able to understand the basics of how to create models in SolidWorks and I learned how to complete analysis on models that I created. In addition to this, I was able to gain a better understanding of how objects behave when forces are applied to them in different ways.
